Ouch!

Acts 16 — 20

The Spirit of God sometimes coaxes us in dreams and visions (Acts 2), empowers us with boldness (Acts 4) and Great Power (Acts 8) and then creates tender forgiveness and affections (Acts 11). The Spirit of God tugs and teases us onward like the desert wind. But… It’s sometimes true that the desert wind is a sandstorm, a grinding and relentless storm of opposition and resistance. Certainly, that was Paul and Silas’ experience as they blew into Greece and western Turkey near the year A.D. 50. From beatings to jailings, their lives were always at the mercy of the storm. Most of us, at one time or another, face an uphill and grinding challenge for a while. It could be work or family, sickness or regrets. It could be sin or simply the broken heart of a loving parent. Following the Spirit of God is no guarantee of smooth sailing with a following wind. Sometimes following the Spirit of God is a matter of hanging on faithfully as we complete our race. Don’t worry — you’ll make it to the end successfully.
